View as Markdown

To obtain your API credentials, you must first set up a developer portal account following the steps in Developer Portal Account. Only users with developer portal accounts can create API keys.

You must have a developer portal account before you can generate API credentials. If you haven’t set one up yet, see Developer Portal Account and Logging in to the Developer Portal.

Creating an application

To obtain your API credentials (Consumer Key and Consumer Secret), create an application in the Plex Developer Portal.

1

Access the Developer Portal

Navigate to the Plex Developer Portal and log in with your credentials.

3

Add a new application

Click Add a New App.

4

Name your application

On the Add App screen, enter a name for your application.

5

Select API products

For Product (also known as API categories), select the API products you want access to.

6

Create the application

Click Create App.

7

Retrieve your credentials

The Consumer Key and Consumer Secret are generated for your application and will appear on the screen.

Store your Consumer Secret in a secure location. You will need both the Consumer Key and Consumer Secret to authenticate your API requests. Do not share these credentials publicly or commit them to source control.
